Carlos Renfro 2009 Natural Yankee Classic Men's Masters IFPA Pro Card winner!
Carlos began working out when he was 22 and had dabbled with weight training as a teen... but, never kept at it. In high school he was a long distance runner and continued to do so after high school. Carlos had always had aspirations to run the Boston Marathon. Running was his passion. He has always enjoyed individual sports, but couldn't fill that void that he was thirsting for until he started weight training. He worked out at home for a couple of years until he felt comfortable about joining a gym.
Carlos finally found that void that was missing when he stepped into the gym. There were so few guys in his gym that competed, and he asked them how they got into competing. A few guys were very encouraging and told him he had good genetics for the sport, and he should go watch a couple of shows. He was bit, hard, by the bug, and drawn to the stage six months later. It came very easy for him. Carlos did very well. He talked to judges and promoters, and they told him to keep at it and put on more size.
Carlos competed for the next ten years, doing four, sometimes six shows a year, and decided to take some time off to decide on where to take his career. After being side-tracked by life for ten years of unhappiness, he returned to his true self, and passion, and began training as a competitive bodybuilder. He was only hitting one show a year for the nest four, five years. His soul was at peace, but not complete. Carlos had decided to step up his game, and make qualifying for his pro card a true priority. The only missing piece of his puzzle that needed to be accomplished. This void had to be filled. It was long-over-due for him to move to the next level.
Carlos prepared himself mentally, physically, spiritually for the next two years. His workouts were intense, precise, focused, and goal oriented. He had not a moment to waste. He had his mind guided and driven on one thing, and that was capturing his pro status. What an ultimate achievement it would be...
Every workout he could see himself on stage receiving that ultimate goal he set for himself. Stay driven he would say. Everything was planned out. His diet, because of his high metabolic rate, was still set on a high calorie meal plan. He would make adjustments sometimes on a daily bases, or sometimes on weekly bases. It was pretty much an instinctive type diet. After you have dieted, competed, trained, and lived under the same skin, you learn. If you are attentive to yourself, it's pretty easy to do. Years of trial-and-error has helped a lot! Dieting, training, and cardio has all come full circle for him, and it finally paid off! Getting his pro card has been a dream come true, and it has been a lot of work and sacrifice by Carlos and everyone close to him.
Carlos would like to thank everyone who poured their support and positive energy to help him make this goal a reality. He has even more work ahead of him now. Stay tuned for the next phase! There is yet, and still more work to do, and he cannot rest until he has accomplished every goal that he has set out to achieve for himself.
Carlos has made an impression on everyone this year. His physique isn't the only thing that is impressive about him. He is as genuine as anyone I have ever met. You won't meet a nicer competitor. I was able to Judge him at the Judgment Day and the Natural Yankee classic shows... and he was one of the great competitors on stage at my Bay State Natural show this year. He was just a joy to watch at every show. He will be fun to watch on the IFPA stage.
